-On December 20, 1832, was born in the Highlands of Gjakova, Haxhi Zeka, a prominent leader of the Albanian National Movement of the 19th century. He was one of the organizers of the Albanian League of Prizren of 1887. He fought for the defense of Plava and Gucia against the Montenegrin forces. Due to his patriotic activity, in 1893 he was called to Istanbul where he was kept under arrest for three years. Haxhi Zeka was killed on February 21, 1902 in Peja, treacherously by the Serbian chauvinist circles that also had the support of the Ottoman authorities.

-On December 20, 1913, was announced the decree of the temporary government of Vlora on the formation of the Albanian gendarmerie in the southern provinces. The decree published in the newspaper “Përlindja e Shqipnisë” /The Rebirth of Albania/, an official gazette of the government, contained the service rules and the contract for entering the Albanian gendarmerie.

-On December 20, 1944, the WWII Albanian Resistance fighter, Ali Demi fell in battle.

-At the end of December 1957, the two-year Higher Pedagogical Institute for the preparation of teachers was founded in Tirana. The institute was the beginning of the rise of higher education in Albania.
