The Castle of Lëkurës and the Monastery of 40 Saints in Saranda declared cultural assets

The Council of Ministers decided to support the initiative ‘For Cultural Heritage and Museums,’ declaring the archaeological areas ‘A’ and ‘B’ in the city of Saranda, along with the ‘Leather Castle’ and the ‘Monastery of the 40 Saints,’ as immovable cultural properties.
The decision also includes the approval of zoning for the archaeological areas ‘A’ and ‘B’ of Saranda city, as well as for the ‘Leather Castle’ and the ‘Monastery of 40 Saints,’ in accordance with the coordinates and zoning maps outlined in the Albanian Geodetic Reference Framework (KRGJSH).
The Council of Ministers further approved the plan for the preservation, protection, and administration of these areas.
Additionally, the Council of Ministers revoked the previous 2012 decision titled ‘On the declaration of archaeological areas “A” and “B” in the city of Saranda and the approval of the administration regulation’.
The State Cadastre Agency is responsible for registering this decision and ensuring compliance with the existing by-laws. Simultaneously, the State Authority for Geospatial Information is assigned the responsibility of publishing maps depicting the archaeological areas ‘A’ and ‘B’ of Saranda city on the National Geoportal.
This decision will come into effect upon its publication in the ‘Official Gazette’.
