-On December 5, 1689, Pjetër Bogdani, the outstanding personality of Albanian culture, passed away in Prishtina. He is regarded as the brightest personalities of the old Albanian literature. Senior clergyman, patriot, scholar and writer who made a valuable contribution to efforts for liberation from the Ottoman conquest and for the development and progress of Albanian culture. With his 40-year political activity, especially with the role he played as the leader of the liberation uprising of 1689 and with the work “Çeta e profeteve” /Troop of Profets/, Pjetër Bogdani has been called an early forerunner of the Albanian National Renaissance Movement.

-On December 5, 1908, the anti-fascist fighter Qemal Muhejdari was born, one of the martyrs who experienced the hell of the Nazi camps. At the beginning of 1945, he together with Mustë Gunbardhi and Nako Siko were shot and burned in the crematorium of the infamous camp.

-On December 5, 1920, the first Albanian electoral law for the election of the MPs to the National Council (parliament) was announced.

-On December 5, 1942, at the age of 24, fell in the fight for the liberation of the country from the fascist invaders, the militant, Hero of the People, Emin Duraku.

-On December 5, 2015, at the age of 54, Mirjan Hakani, one of the emblems of Albanian weightlifting, protagonist of great and unforgettable duels, passed away after a serious illness. He will be remembered not only for his spectacular competitions on the weightlifting carpetfield, but also for the great spirit, humor and jokes of a man with a big heart who transmitted positive energy.
