The film “A cup of coffee and new shoes”, which will represent Albania at the Oscars 2023, opens its premiere in cinemas.

This film is inspired by a true story, but the scenes and events are fiction. The director and screenwriter, Gentian Koçi, touches on a very sensitive topic, that of people with different abilities.

He does not treat them as a community that is left aside, neglected, but he wanted to convey the deep existential drama that these people feel as they lose communication with the world and how they adapt to the new reality.

At the center of the film are two identical twin brothers, deaf from birth, who, after discovering that due to a genetic disease, they will become progressively but irreversibly blind, fight with all means to given their existence, another twist.

After many applications and auditions, the director entrusted the main roles to two monozygotic brothers from Portugal, Rafael and Edgar Morais, and the actress from Kosovo, Drita Kabashi.

Communication between the actors was carried out in Albanian sign language, for which they were trained for about 6 months. Actress Drita Kabashi says that the profiling she has as a theater actress has helped her find it easier to convey emotion through physical activity. Meanwhile, the monozygotic twin brothers from Portugal claim that this has been the most difficult role they have played so far.
