A rare ancient anchor is discovered in the river Mat with a height of 1.2 m, it belongs to the 5th-6th century!

A rare anchor of an ancient ship, dating back to about 1400 years ago, was found in the depths of the waters of the Mat river, in Skuraj of Kurbin. With a height of 1.2 meters and a chain of 6.4 meters, the anchor was spotted by a resident of the area and belongs to the 5th-6th century.
For the Cultural Heritage specialist in Lezha, Ded Margjoni, the anchor is one of the rare underwater objects, with archaeological value as it is thought to belong to the V-VI century AD, in the period when the Mat River was navigable. It is an anchor that was used by a ship with a tonnage not as large as other anchors have been found, but what is special about this is that there is also a 6.5 meter long chain, which proves that the Mat River was navigable,’ said Ded Margjoni. The more than 1400-year-old anchor is being kept by the resident who found it, while it is expected to be verified by an expert from the Ministry of Culture.
