Afërdita Selimaj, a well-known figure in economic journalism, passed away after a serious illness.

According to an announcement from Albanian Radio Television, Afërdita began her journalism career in 1977 after completing her higher education at the Faculty of Political Sciences, majoring in Journalism.

Initially, she contributed to the local newspaper “Shkëndia” in Lushnjë, and later worked as a journalist at RTSH throughout her life.

Afërdita Selimaj will be remembered for her dedication to socio-economic programs, passionately contributing to various fields of radio and television journalism. She was one of the pioneers of economic journalism in Albania, serving as an inspiration and support for all journalists in this field.

Afërdita left behind a vast archive at Radio Tirana and RTSH, including thousands of reports and many programs, among which “Cikli Otranto 97,” “Albanians and Conflicts,” and others.

In 2000, she was appointed Director of the News Department at Radio Tirana, a position she held until August 2003. Later, she passionately led the section for compatriots at Radio Tirana.

In 2003, elected by the Albanian Parliament, Afërdita became the first Chairperson of the Media Monitoring Board at the CEC.

In recognition of her decades-long media contribution, in 2021, Afërdita Selimaj was honored by the President of the Republic of Albania with the title “Grand Master.”
