Albania’s Minister of the Interior, Ervin Demo, met Italian Ambassador Marco Alberti on Tuesday to discuss strengthening the strategic partnership between the two countries in the field of security.

In a post on social media, Demo said the cooperation rests on a well-established framework of bilateral agreements and protocols covering security, migration and border management.

He said the partnership focuses on joint investigations and operations against serious and organised crime, drug trafficking, human trafficking, and the prevention of cross-border criminal activities.

Demo also praised Italy’s continued support and expertise in strengthening Albania’s investigative and inter-institutional capacities, advancing the professional development of law enforcement agencies, and improving operational capabilities.

He added that the joint efforts enhance public safety while helping Albania meet its commitments under Chapter 24 of the European Union accession negotiations, which covers justice, freedom and security.
