Albania and Italy Join Forces to Preserve and Digitize Film Heritage

Albania and Italy are strengthening cultural cooperation to preserve and digitize their shared film heritage. Albanian Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport Blendi Gonxhja and Italian Culture Minister Alessandro Giuli visited the Central State Film Archive, where they viewed rare footage documenting the history of relations between the two countries.
The archive presented early films of Italians in Albania, many produced by Albanian filmmakers, alongside unique objects and other materials from both countries’ film heritage. Gonxhja said these records preserve an important part of their shared historical and cultural memory.
During the visit, the ministers also discussed plans to expand cooperation on archive preservation and digitization, organize joint exhibitions and develop cultural exchange programs. These initiatives aim to make historic footage more accessible to the public while creating new opportunities for collaboration between Albanian and Italian cultural institutions.
