Albania and Turkey defence ministers meet in Ankara to strengthen strategic partnership

Defence Minister Ermal Nufi met his Turkish counterpart Yaşar Guler in Ankara on Thursday to discuss stronger strategic cooperation in defence and security. They also discussed concrete projects in areas of mutual interest.
Nufi said Albania and Turkey share a consolidated partnership based on strong historical and human ties and joint NATO membership. He also highlighted Turkey’s long-standing contribution to modernising the Albanian Armed Forces. More than 20 years of military education and training in Turkey have strengthened bilateral defence ties. Nufi said cooperation will continue to focus on modernisation, capacity building and greater interoperability in line with NATO standards and objectives.
Meanwhile, the ministers discussed cooperation with Turkish companies through investments and joint ventures in Albania. Nufi said technology transfer could help develop local capabilities and create new opportunities for Albania’s defence industry. He also praised Turkey’s contribution to KFOR and its support for Albania’s EUFOR Althea contingent.
The two ministers agreed to move towards a more structured programme based on practical projects and measurable results.
