Albania Continues Preparations in Malaga, Simoni Replaces Injured Kastrati

Albania’s national team continued training in Malaga, Spain, on day two of preparations for the September matches.

According to the Albanian FA’s Communications Department, head coach Silvinho has called up U-21 goalkeeper Simon Simoni. He replaces Elhan Kastrati, who is unavailable due to injury.

Kastrati reported to the training camp despite a knee injury. After medical tests, the staff confirmed he won’t be fit for the upcoming matches against Gibraltar and Latvia. He now requires further medical treatment.

In response, Silvinho added Simoni to the senior squad. The young goalkeeper will join the team later today and will be available for both the friendly vs Gibraltar and the 2026 World Cup Qualifier against Latvia in Tirana.

Meanwhile, Enis Çokaj and Cristian Shpendi arrived at camp earlier today. Both trained normally with the team. The session lasted just over an hour, and all players appear in good shape.

Looking ahead, coach Silvinho will hold a press conference on Wednesday at 17:00, followed by the official training session at 18:00.

Albania plays Gibraltar away on September 4 at 18:00 in a friendly match. Then, on September 9, the team faces Latvia in a World Cup qualifying match at Air Albania Stadium, kicking off at 20:45.

Tickets for the qualifier are available online at ebileta.al, and at the main ticket office at the entrance of Air Albania Stadium in Tirana.
