Albania-Greece, memorandum of understanding on archaeology and cultural heritage

Albanian Minister of Culture, Elva Margariti received in a meeting the Greek counterpart, Lina Mendoni, who is visiting Tirana within the Greek Culture Week.

Both interlocutors talked about expanding cooperation in the field of art and cultural heritage. In this framework, a memorandum of understanding was signed in the field of archeology and cultural heritage. Mrs. Margariti stated that the memorandum of understanding envisages the realization of joint research and study projects in the field of archeology, restoration, conservation, museology; exchange of experts and best practices in this field.

“Following the previous meetings, we discussed the expansion of our cooperation in the field of art and cultural heritage, as two countries with extraordinary wealth that see culture as a factor of peace and rapprochement between peoples,” said Margariti.

Speaking about the International Culture Weeks, Margariti underlined that it is an initiative that arose from the need to re-establish friendly ties between many countries, not to simply celebrate past friendships, but to build new co-operation relations. Inter-institutional cooperation is the focus of this agreement and this will not remain just as an umbrella agreement, but we discussed all further steps. Work has begun with the Cultural Heritage Institute,” she said.

But, Margariti pointed out, it is not only that, but also the celebration of the beauty of each state that comes and promotes its culture. According to Margarit, International Culture Weeks will follow each year.
