Albania joining Peace Board; FM Spiropali: US invitation affirms strategic partnership

TIRANA, January 19 – Foreign Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Elisa Spiropali spoke about Albania’s invitation from US President Donald Trump to join the Peace Board for managing the Gaza Strip.
She said the invitation reflects direct recognition of Albania’s role on the international stage. In addition, she noted that Prime Minister Edi Rama received a personal invitation as a board member.
However, Spiropali explained that some political opponents reacted with misinterpretations and speculation, despite the event’s significance.
She emphasized that Albania is invited as a co-creator of a new international mechanism. The mechanism aims to contribute to sustainable and functional peace worldwide. It will focus initially on challenges in the Gaza Strip.
Meanwhile, Spiropali added that the invitation delivers a clear message from the “New America.” She said foreign policy does not depend on a country’s size or population. Instead, coherence, authenticity, and the ability to contribute to peace and security matter.
She also pointed out that internal debates sometimes produce unfounded discussions and political speculation, even as Albania earns international recognition.
In addition, Spiropali noted that other invited countries, such as Argentina and Turkey, accepted the invitation with appreciation and without domestic controversy.
She concluded that for a small country like Albania, this invitation represents a highly important development. The Peace Board provides a new and different approach to conflict resolution and global crisis management.
