A delegation of the Academy of Sciences of Albania, headed by the president Skënder Gjinushi, made a two-day visit to Podgorica at the invitation of the Academy of Sciences and Arts of Montenegro (CANU).

The delegation of the Academy of Sciences of Albania was welcomed to the new building of the Academy of Sciences and Arts of Montenegro in Podgorica by Dragan K. Vukčević, President of the Academy of Sciences and Arts of Montenegro.

Vukčević mentioned in his speech the joint academic commitments for a long period of more than 20 years.

Vukčević proposed an increase in the level of academic cooperation by proposing to hold annual meetings in Tirana and Podgorica, as well as establishing direct contacts of institutes, scientific research units and commissions of the two academies to design joint projects in the fields of ecology, renewable energy, shared water assets of the Buna River and Lake Shkodra, archeology as well as in other fields of knowledge.

The head of the Academy of Sciences of Albania Gjinushi emphasized the fact that the participation of the delegation of the Academy of Sciences and Arts of Montenegro in the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the Academy of Sciences of Albania was a positive message for the strengthening of these relations.

Gjinushi assessed the level of relations between the two academies and welcomed Vukčević’s proposal to organize joint meetings once every 6 months in Tirana and Podgorica.

“At the same time, it is necessary to renew the cooperation agreement between the two academies, signed in 2002, and to move to a new, closer academic cooperation, accompanied by 2-year cooperation protocols, in the fields of knowledge albanology, humanities, natural sciences, ecology, renewable energy, water assets of the Buna River and Lake Shkodra, cross-border cultural heritage of the other, archeology, demography, border ethno-cultural traditions, art, etc., he said.

In the meeting between the delegations, it was agreed to promote cooperation in the fields of art and culture, in the organization of joint concerts and exhibitions, as well as the promotion of academic cooperation in the fields of ethnoculture and archaeology.
