Albania Moves to Align Tax Transparency Rules with EU Standards under DAC8

Albania is taking steps to align its tax legislation with European Union standards by implementing DAC8, which requires the collection and exchange of information on crypto-asset transactions.
The General Directorate of Taxes said the rapid growth of the digital economy makes greater tax transparency and stronger international cooperation increasingly important. DAC8 requires the reporting and exchange of information on crypto transactions, including users’ identification and tax details, as well as data on asset exchanges and transfers.
The rules may require crypto-asset service providers and other reporting entities to disclose relevant information to tax authorities. The framework aims to improve cross-border information sharing and help prevent tax evasion in the digital economy.
Albania’s tax administration said it remains committed to aligning national legislation with EU standards as the country advances its European integration process.
