Albania Moves to Steer Investment Toward a Greener Economy

Albania has taken a step toward expanding green finance and directing investment into sustainable activities. The Bank of Albania presented the final draft of the National Green Activities Classification with support from the European Investment Bank.
Second Deputy Governor Natasha Ahmetaj said the framework will influence how banks and investors direct capital. Banks will increasingly assess environmental and climate risks when making lending decisions. EIB representative Alessandro de Concini said the initiative will strengthen Albania’s capital market, attract sustainable investment and bring the country closer to EU standards.
The classification will give banks, businesses and investors clear criteria for identifying green activities. It will also strengthen transparency and reporting while supporting decarbonization and climate resilience.
