Albania Supreme Court President Sadushi: Judicial independence is a guarantee for citizens

Supreme Court President Sokol Sadushi has stressed the responsibility, independence and integrity expected from future judges and prosecutors. He spoke at the opening ceremony of the 2026-2027 academic year at the School of Magistrates.
Addressing the new students, Sadushi said they would assume important responsibilities in Albania’s justice system. He focused particularly on judicial independence. The Supreme Court president said judges must base their decisions on justice rather than on pressure or considerations that could make a decision easier.
Sadushi said the School of Magistrates prepares professionals for positions that carry significant legal powers and responsibilities. He told future judges that independence is not a privilege but a guarantee for citizens. He said judges must uphold the right decision even when it is not the easiest, most popular or most convenient choice.
Meanwhile, Sadushi told future prosecutors that the strength of an indictment depends on its justice rather than its severity. He also stressed the weight of public power. He said officials must not treat its exercise as routine because their decisions affect people’s rights, interests and lives. Sadushi added that Albania has invested heavily in justice reform, but no reform can be stronger than the people who implement it.
