Tirana, October 1 – From April 20 to 26, 2026, Tirana will host the European Wrestling Championship for Seniors. The World Wrestling Federation entrusted Albania with the event, calling it a recognition of the sport’s growing profile in the country.

The Albanian Wrestling Federation described the decision as historic. It underlined that the championship offers a chance to show Albania’s values, passion, and commitment on the international stage.

In a letter to Albanian Wrestling Federation President Sahit Prizreni, World Wrestling Federation President Nenad Lalovic confirmed the decision. He stressed confidence in Albania’s ability to host the tournament and thanked the federation for accepting what he called a meaningful challenge.

Albania secured the hosting rights following international success by its wrestlers. Islam Dudaev, Zelimkhan Abakarov, and Chermen Valiev have excelled in major competitions, raising the country’s profile in the sport.
