Albania will soon open a Consulate General in Detroit, Foreign Minister Ferit Hoxha said during Prime Minister Edi Rama’s meeting with the Albanian community in Michigan.

Hoxha said the new consulate would bring public services closer to Albanian citizens. He said it would provide more efficient consular services, stronger interaction and support, and closer economic and trade ties with local and state authorities and businesses.

Meanwhile, Hoxha said Albania aims to make its public services more functional and effective wherever Albanian communities need them. He said the state should support Albanians abroad in preserving and developing the Albanian language and maintaining their national identity.

Hoxha also said distance does not weaken Albanians’ ties with their homeland. He described Albanians living abroad as part of the same history and language.
