TIRANA, January 12 – The Albanian Academy of Sciences opened an online platform for the Great Dictionary of the Albanian Language today. The platform gives free access to all users at “fjalori.online”. The decision to launch it was formalized in Decision No. 1 on January 6, 2026, and the site became operational on January 12.

The Academy said the dictionary is one of three major projects in Albanology. The other two are “History of the Albanians” and the “Albanian Encyclopedia”. These projects aim to promote Albania’s national identity, history, and cultural heritage.

Academician Jani Thomai leads the dictionary as editor-in-chief. He is supported by deputy editors-in-chief academician Valter Memishaj and Prof. Dr. Shezai Rrokaj. The Academy added that it plans to publish the dictionary in ten volumes next year.

The platform allows users to interact and access the dictionary on all digital devices. During the first nine months, the Academy will collect feedback, suggestions, and additions from the public. Afterwards, the Dictionary Editorial Board and the Technical Coordinator will review and integrate the suggestions within three months.

The Academy explained that the Great Dictionary of the Albanian Language serves writers, journalists, students, teachers, academics, and researchers. It also supports anyone working with Albanian in written or spoken form.
