Albanian and Kosovan Defense Ministers Agree on Enhancing Defense Capabilities and Investing in Human Resources

During his inaugural official visit to Kosova, Albanian Defense Minister Pirro Vengu was welcomed by his Kosovan counterpart, Ejup Maqedonci.
In a statement to the media, Vengu shared that the discussions with Maqedonci centered on enhancing defense capabilities and investing in human resources.
An important agreement between the two ministers involves demining certain areas that remain untreated by the armed forces of both countries, particularly regions of notable tourist interest. Additionally, Vengu and Maqedonci agreed to establish joint civil protection teams for forested and mountainous areas.
“It is a privilege to be here following a meeting with the Prime Minister. We had the chance to exchange ideas as colleagues. We have agreed on several priorities, including increasing capacities and investing in human capital. We have access to resources from our Armed Forces, such as the AF Academy and our agencies, to ensure that the KSF (Kosova Security Force) has comprehensive security training for its forces and personnel,” Vengu stated.
“The second key agreement is related to demining activities in the Mountains Belt, which are of special tourist interest and have not yet been addressed by our armed forces,” he added.
“Third point of focus is the integration of resources to avoid duplication in civil protection efforts. We aim to create joint teams for civil protection in forested and mountainous areas,” Vengu noted.
Security situation in the region also received significant attention during the meeting.
“Discussion also covered the regional security situation, including Kosova’s perspective and the alliance’s interaction with NATO, which remains a key priority for us. KFOR is a crucial tool for collective security, and effective interaction is essential in every situation. I highlighted this in today’s meeting as well,” Vengu concluded.
Vengu also underscored Albania’s valued contribution to KFOR and reaffirmed the commitment to support Kosova in its role as a contributor to regional and collective security.
