Albanian Assembly Speaker Peleshi discusses stronger ties with Israel

Assembly of Albania Speaker Niko Peleshi met Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar in Tirana to discuss bilateral relations and opportunities to expand cooperation. The meeting comes as Albania and Israel mark 35 years of diplomatic relations. Peleshi highlighted the historical ties between Albanians and Jews, including the protection of Jews during the Holocaust. He said these shared experiences and mutual respect provide a strong foundation for continued dialogue.
Meanwhile, the two officials discussed closer parliamentary cooperation through exchanges of experience and more frequent contacts between their legislatures. They also reviewed opportunities in security, cyber defence, the economy, technology, education, healthcare, agriculture and tourism. The recently signed general cooperation agreement between the two countries provides a framework for developing these ties and identifying practical areas for joint work.
The talks also covered developments in the Middle East. Both sides stressed the importance of diplomatic efforts, dialogue and international cooperation to support peace and security in the region. The meeting reaffirmed Albania’s commitment to strengthening political and parliamentary dialogue with Israel and expanding cooperation in areas of shared interest.
