The National Book and Reading Center announced today that Albanian writer Ledia Xhoga is a contender for the 2025 Booker Prize, one of the most prestigious literary awards in the English-speaking world.

Xhoga has been longlisted for her novel Misinterpretation, earning a place among this year’s top international literary voices.

She is the second Albanian author nominated for the Booker Prize, following Ismail Kadare. Kadare won The International Booker Prize in 2005—the inaugural year of that category—and was nominated again in 2017 and 2024.

The winner of the 2025 Booker Prize will be announced on November 10.

First awarded in 1969, the Booker Prize honors outstanding literary fiction written in or translated into English. It has promoted excellence in fiction for more than five decades and helped bring global attention to high-quality literary works.

Importantly, the prize recognizes the essential role of translators. The £50,000 award is split equally between the author and translator. In addition, each shortlisted author and translator receives £2,500.

By celebrating diverse voices from across the world, the Booker Prize continues to shape the future of literary fiction and inspire readers everywhere.
