Albanian Foreign Minister Ferit Hoxha meets North Macedonian student, highlights importance of language rights

TIRANA, April 16 – Albanian Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Ferit Hoxha met student Mevlan Ademi from North Macedonia in Tirana to discuss language rights and youth civic engagement.

In a post on social media platform X, Hoxha said he listened to concerns raised by students involved in peaceful demonstrations in North Macedonia. The students have called for full respect of rights to use their mother tongue.

Hoxha stressed the importance of the full and consistent implementation of the Ohrid Agreement of 2001. He described it as a cornerstone for equality and effective state functioning in a multiethnic society.

He also said that listening to young people and including them in decision-making processes is a key element of democracy. According to him, civic engagement must translate into concrete policies that ensure equality and European standards.

The minister underlined that support for these values is essential for strengthening democratic institutions and advancing the region’s European future.
