Sekine Sharofi, the legendary prima ballerina of the National Opera and Ballet Theater and the wife of the dramatic tenor Xhoni Athanas, passed away on Monday.

She will be remembered as an amazing woman and a disciplined dancer with an excellent temperament, who captivated the art-loving public with her performances.

Classical dance soloist Sekine Sharofi was born on March 4, 1938. Her name is synonymous with the Albanian Ballet scene. Sharofi has engraved her name in the history of classical dance as a soloist, a prima donna with a dazzling brilliance that will never be forgotten.

She excelled and shone brilliantly in her interpretations of the most significant works in the repertoire, such as: “Laurencia” by Alexander Krein, “Zhurale” by Farid Jaruli, “Before the Storm” by Çesk Zadeja, “Halili and Hajria” by Tish Daija, “Lola” by Marat Gaziev, “Delina” by Çesk Zadeja, “Fadeta” by Leo Delibes, “Cuca e maleve” by Nikolla Zoraqi, “Shota and Azem Galica” by Nikolla Zoraqi, “Petya and the Wolf” by Sergei Prokofiev, “Care of Useless” by Hertel, the choreographic Rhapsody “History of a Song” by Nikolla Zoraqi, and “Sheherezada” by N. Rimskij Korsakov, among many others.

Sekine will forever remain within the golden constellation of Albanian artists. Older generations will always remember her for the shy smile that only she knew how to share with the Albanian public, at a time when all of Albania was in black and white.
