Albanologists Support Student Protest in Skopje: “They Should Be Backed Until Albanian Is Accepted”

Albanian student protests in Skopje have been described as justified by albanologists gathered in Pristina during a week dedicated to Albanian language studies.
Albanologist Asllan Hamiti said the students’ demand to take the bar exam in Albanian is legitimate. He also stated that the issue reflects ongoing obstacles to linguistic equality between Albanian and Macedonian.
Furthermore, he argued that government policies are attempting to block full language equality in North Macedonia.
Similarly, albanologist Xhafer Beqiraj said that Macedonian political structures are not yet ready to accept Albanian as an equal official language.
According to him, continued pressure is necessary to ensure full equality between Albanian and Macedonian. He also noted that Albanian students in Skopje have protested this issue on previous occasions as well.
