Albin Kurti: Ready for an agreement with Serbia

The Government of Kosovo aims to reach an agreement between Kosovo and Serbia on the normalization of relations. Prime Minister Albin Kurti said that they are ready for this to happen during 2022, but such a thing also depends on Serbia.
“Whether there will be such an agreement depends much more on Serbia than on Kosovo, since we are ready. “Agreements that do not imply mutual recognition as the center of content are of course not acceptable to us but also not beneficial to anyone.”
He said that reaching a final agreement would bring benefits to both countries, as it would accelerate the process of integration of these two countries into the European family.
“Serbia wants to continue the European path but I will not be able to do this without recognizing Kosovo and on the other hand Kosovo wants European and Euro-Atlantic integration and for this we need a full normalization with Serbia.”
But for Prime Minister Kurti, Serbia has dilemmas regarding its EU integration.
“Serbia has dilemmas because it has a Free Trade Agreement with Russia, buys arms from Russia and is part of the Eurasian Economic Union. Gazprom has 50% of Serbia’s oil industry and also 51% of the largest gas basin in Banask Vor in Vojvodina, so they have dilemmas while we are clear on our European and Western European path.
Next year, according to Prime Minister Albin Kurti, Kosovo will apply for candidate status.
