Amantia archeological park, excavations of “Hebrew Tomb” completed

The archaeological excavations for the extraction and documentation of the funerary monument called “Varri i çifutit” (The Jew Tomb) have been completed.
The architecture of the tomb consists of a monumental structure, which includes within it two tombs with simpler architecture, made of brick masonry and stone blocks.
In advance, it can be said that the tomb dates back to the 3rd-2nd century BC, dating which is expected to be confirmed by the following studies. The monument has unique elements in the construction technique and is the most monumental representative of tombs with a rectangular platform in the territory of Albania.
In addition to the complete extraction and documentation, Cultural Heritage Regional Directorate of Vlora will continue with the design of the restoration project and its integration into a visit itinerary for the many visitors who choose to visit the archaeological park of Amantia.
The complete discovery of this monument confirms the great archaeological potential and the unique values of the ancient city of Amantia, as an important center of ancient Illyria.
