Ambassador Reka meets Xhaferi: Integration into the EU not to be missed an opportunity

The relations between Albania and North Macedonia contribute to the stability of the region and Europe as a whole. Therefore, both countries are committed to fostering good neighborliness.

On Wednesday, Macedonian Prime Minister Talat Xhaferi received the Albanian ambassador to the country, Fatos Reka. The Albanian diplomat extended congratulations to Mr. Xhaferi on behalf of the government, acknowledging his election as the head of the executive.

The two officials discussed the joint efforts of their countries to integrate into the European family, as well as their economic collaboration.

“North Macedonia and Albania are making successful strides on the European path and merit full membership in the European Union by 2030. This is deemed crucial for the citizens of both countries and imperative for European stability, especially in the current geopolitical context. As such, the genuine opportunity for European integration for both nations should not be lost,” as emphasized in the statement.

Mr. Xhaferi stated that the temporary government, which he leads until the next political elections, is grounded in a pro-European coalition. The political course emphasizes integration and the enhancement of citizens’ quality of life.

The parties also discussed areas for cooperation. Mr. Xhaferi and Mr. Reka concurred that regional economic integration should be bolstered to facilitate free access to the labor market and electronic identification of citizens in the Western Balkans. Both Albania and North Macedonia are anticipated to enhance economic collaboration through ongoing infrastructural projects, including Corridor 8 and 10.
