An EU Joint Commission to monitor Kosova-Serbia Agreement

The European Union has announced that on Tuesday the Joint Commission was established to monitor the implementation of the Agreement reached between Kosova and Serbia, for the normalization of relations.

The agreement was reached on February 27 in Brussels, while compliance for the implementation annex was reached on March 18 in Ohrid.

The news about the establishment of the Commission was announced by the spokesperson of the EU, Peter Stano.

He also confirmed that the next high-level meeting between the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti and the Serbian President, Aleksandar Vucic, will take place on May 2 in Brussels.

“The task of the joint commission is to supervise the implementation of the Agreement on the path towards the normalization of relations between Kosova and Serbia and the annex to its implementation. This is a concrete result and concrete implementation of what was achieved 30 days ago, in the high-level meeting between Prime Minister of Kosova Kurti and president of Serbia, Vucic, said Peter Stano.

The special envoy for the dialogue, Miroslav Lajcak will be a member of this joint Commission, and will chair that body, on behalf of the EU.

Kosova will be represented by its ambassador in Brussels, Agron Bajrami, while Serbia will be represented by the head of its delegation for dialogue, Petar Petkovic.

The EU spokesperson has announced that this joint Commission will meet regularly in Brussels, while the details will be clarified and approved at its first meeting.

The first meeting will take place, after the next meeting at a high level, between Kurti and Vucic.

The 11-article agreement, made public on February 27, does not oblige Serbia to recognize Kosova, but requires both countries to accept each other’s documents and symbols, including: passports, diplomas and license plates.

Kosova and Serbia have reached dozens of agreements since the beginning of the dialogue, but most of them have not been implemented with parties blaming each other for stagnation.
