Arben Tafaj, the chairman of the “Tirana” Association and former independent candidate for Mayor of Tirana, has sadly passed away at the age of 63. Tafaj, an economist by profession and a 1986 graduate, tragically lost his life after an accidental fall at his home.

The Tafaj family confirmed the news of his passing. Tafaj had a distinguished political career, serving as a municipal councilor for three consecutive terms, starting with the 2003 elections. He also held the position of head of the 8th administrative unit in Tirana.

Beyond his political achievements, Tafaj was deeply involved in civil society. As the leader of the “Tirana” Association, he was a tireless advocate for the preservation of the city’s cultural and urban heritage. His leadership was marked by a passionate commitment to defending the values of the community he served.

Though his efforts were often behind the scenes, Tafaj played a pivotal role in advocating for the construction of the pedestrian street on “Murat Toptani” Street, which uncovered the foundations of the Old Fortress of Tirana. His legacy as a defender of Tirana’s heritage will not be forgotten.
