Archaeologists Uncover New Finds in Konispol Excavations

Archaeologists uncovered several graves this June during excavations at the medieval basilica floor in the Çuka e Ajtoit archaeological site.

A joint Albanian-Italian project led these excavations in the ancient city of Çuka e Ajtoit and in the ruins of the medieval basilica in the village of Çiflig, part of the Konispol municipality.

Excavations in Çuka e Ajtoit focused on the area known as “The Palace.” So far, important archaeological data have emerged. These findings shed light on the settlement’s long life and the function of its main buildings.

DRTK Vlorë is actively cooperating with the project leaders, Dr. Julian Bogdani from Sapienza University in Italy and Dr. Nevila Molla from the Archaeological Institute in Tirana. Together, they are working to find solutions for conserving the monuments and architectural structures uncovered during the digs.
