Archives Donate Rare Documents to Albanian Alphabet Museum in Bitola

The General Directorate of Archives (GDA), in cooperation with the Historical and Diplomatic Archives of Albania’s Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, will donate reproductions of rare documents related to the 1908 Congress of Manastir to the Museum of the Albanian Alphabet in Bitola, North Macedonia.
The initiative will support efforts to preserve and promote Albania’s historical and linguistic heritage ahead of Alphabet Day on November 22.
Officials announced the decision during a meeting attended by Albania’s ambassador to North Macedonia, Denion Meidani; Honorary Consul Imer Selmani; GDA Archive Services Director Elsa Saka; ambassador Mira Hoxha; and Museum Director Nuer Arsllani.
During the meeting, representatives discussed practical steps to enrich the museum’s collection with historical documents. They aim to help younger generations better understand the significance of the Congress of Manastir and the efforts of their predecessors to unify the Albanian alphabet.
The GDA has also supported other initiatives to preserve Albanian language and culture in Bitola. It has donated dozens of publications to Linkest, the city’s only Albanian-language bookstore, helping promote the mother tongue among young people.
The city has also established an Archival Corner and hosted an edition of the National Conference on Archival Studies. These initiatives aim to strengthen ties with Albania’s national heritage and preserve historical memory for future generations.
