Defense Minister Ermal Nufi said around 100 Armed Forces personnel are taking part in firefighting operations at two sites identified last night. The fires broke out in Pojan, at the Apollonia Archaeological Park in Fier, and in the Gjiri i Lalëzit area of Durrës.

Nufi said 68 Armed Forces personnel and 15 firefighting vehicles from the municipalities of Durres, Shijak, Tirana, Kamza, Vora, Kavaja and Elbasan are operating near Shën Pjetër in Gjiri i Lalëzit. After the teams worked throughout the night, authorities deployed a helicopter to operate over the difficult hilly terrain. Nufi said the teams are working intensively to contain the fires and protect residents, homes and property in the area.

Meanwhile, Nufi said Armed Forces personnel continue to monitor the situation in Pojan, where the fire at the Apollonia Archaeological Park remains under control. The Air Force also deployed a helicopter yesterday to fight the flames. No monuments suffered damage from the fire.
