On December 11, 1947, Aleksandër Stavre Drenova, known as Asdreni, passed away in Bucharest at 75.

Asdreni was a leading figure of the Albanian National Awakening and the author of the National Anthem. He was a poet, journalist, and activist for the national cause.

In 1889, he emigrated to Romania and worked in various jobs. There, he joined the Bucharest Albanian colony and became a key activist. He started publishing poems and articles in the early 20th century, following the traditions of Naim and Çajupi. His works celebrated Albanian freedom and heritage.

Notable works include “Ëndrra e lotë,” “Rreze dielli,” “Burri i dheut,” “Fisnikët e Shqipërisë,” and “Kambana e Krujës.”

Asdreni’s personal archive, including his 1941 passport, is preserved at the General Directorate of Archives. His patriotic poetry inspired national awareness and enriched Albanian literature with new forms and expressions.
