Balla: Italy Key Supporter of Albania’s EU Path

Taulant Balla, chairman of the Socialist Party parliamentary group, spoke at a conference in Rome on the rights of ethno-linguistic minorities. The event focused on the Italo-Albanian community and honored constitutionalist Constantino Mortati.

Balla highlighted the historical role of the Arbëresh people. He said they have preserved the Albanian language and traditions while integrating into Italian society.

He described Albania-Italy relations as a model of friendship, cooperation, and mutual trust in Europe and the Mediterranean.

Balla noted that Italy remains Albania’s main ally in its EU integration process. Albania has opened five of six negotiation chapters with the EU and continues reforms in justice, public administration, and digitalization. He stressed that these achievements also reflect Italian support and cooperation.

He also praised the Arbëresh community as a historical bridge between the two nations. He highlighted modern Albanian diaspora contributions in Italy, noting their economic, cultural, and social impact.

The conference reaffirmed the importance of remembering Mortati’s legacy. Balla said it underlines the value of the constitution, rights, and unity in diversity.
