Balluku: Hydropower Situation Under Control, No Gate Openings Planned

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Energy Belinda Balluku visited the Koman Hydropower Plant on Tuesday evening to monitor conditions after heavy rainfall in the past 24 hours.
During the inspection with KESH administrator Erald Elezi, Balluku said authorities are managing the situation and do not plan to open the gates for water discharge. She added that rainfall may intensify by Friday, but measures are in place to minimize damage and keep the situation under control.
Currently, the Koman reservoir stands at 167 meters, with a 7-meter buffer to maximum capacity. The Vau i Dejës reservoir is at 71 meters, with 4.5 meters to full capacity. Both plants operate at full capacity, producing energy while handling high inflows.
Elezi noted that Vau i Dejës runs at maximum capacity, with flows around 200 m³/sec. Koman also operates at full capacity, while Fierza remains offline to provide additional space for Koman. He confirmed that hydropower infrastructure is ready for emergencies, with maintenance gates tested and generators prepared.
Authorities expect continued rainfall through Friday. Balluku emphasized that teams are closely monitoring changes and coordinating with local and central structures to prevent serious consequences. She said all resources are mobilized to manage the situation effectively.
