President Bajram Begaj kicked off a two-day visit to Kosovo, where today he paid homage at the Memorial Complex of Martyrs in Gllogjan. The municipality of Deçan honored him with the title of “Honorary Citizen of Deçan.”

President Bajram Begaj recognized the sacrifice and bloodshed of the martyrs for Kosovo’s freedom. He emphasized the importance of protecting this hard-won liberty at all costs.

“It is a pleasure to be here in Deçan, in this sacred place, to continue our celebrations for the 25th anniversary of Kosovo’s Liberation. We are here to honor all the sacrifices and the bloodshed that have brought us to this extraordinary day of freedom. Therefore, we must protect it at all costs,” he stressed.

The leader of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), Ramush Haradinaj, welcomed President Begaj, noting that the Memorial Complex of Martyrs in Gllogjan is the resting place of great heroes who contributed to the liberation of the country.

“On our most beautiful days, the President of Albania, with the First Lady, His Excellency General Bajram Begaj, has visited Gllogjan, Deçan, and once again Kosovo. I am honored to stand before you, President Begaj, in this place where brave fighters, skilled Albanians, and great heroes rest. I am convinced they are pleased that we are together today,” he emphasized.

After this visit, Begaj was declared an “Honorary Citizen” of the municipality of Deçan.

Upon receiving this honor, Begaj expressed his appreciation and privilege for being awarded the title of “Honorary Citizen” by the Municipality of Deçan.

He stated that this title would motivate him to continue working even harder to help Kosovo become part of international organizations.

Begaj added that Deçan is a region where the first shots of the Kosovo Liberation Army were fired and the birthplace of people of honor and true legends of patriotism.

“I have come to the Bjeshkët e Nemuna, a place blessed by God. These lands have a rich and ancient history as old as the mountains themselves, where traditions intertwine with legend, and the pure spirit of Albanianism lives on. I am in a region where patriotic men and women of wisdom and honor were born, true legends of love for the homeland. Your ancestors were symbols of resistance against the occupier. Deçan is where the first shots of the Kosovo Liberation Army were fired. From today, I am deeply honored and valued to be an honorary citizen of this region, as proposed by the assembly of Deçan. I accept it with great gratitude; it is an extraordinary privilege and honor to receive this title. Naturally, this title motivates me to continue working even more to ensure that Kosovo attains its rightful place and becomes part of international organizations,” said Begaj.
