Begaj: Situation in Kosova, an unjustifiable violence; Novak: Parties should find the way to peace

The President of Albania, Bajram Begaj, while commenting on the developments in the north of Kosova, condemned the violence against the media and KFOR.

Begaj said during a joint press statement with the President of Hungary, Katalin Novak, on an official visit to Albania, that the violence against KFOR soldiers and the media is unjustifiable. According to him, prudence is needed to de-escalate the situation. Begaj also underscored the imperative need to implement the agreement reached in Brussels and the annexes in Ohrid.

The President of Hungary, Novak appealed in her speech for dialogue to calm the situation. Among others, she stated: “We have over 400 troops in Kosovo in KFOR Mission. They were brave, we hope that such a situation will not happen again, and it calms down as soon as possible and that they [parties involved] find the way to a long-term peace”.

For several days in three municipalities in the north of Kosova, respectively in Leposaviç, Zubin Potok and in Zveçan, the Serbian minority community in Kosova has protested against the presence of the Kosova state police in exercise of constitutional duties.

During Monday, protestors in masks and those without masks used violence against members of KFOR.
