Borrell talks about the tense situation between Kosovo and Serbia: “I will report to the EU Summit on the situation in the north”

The high representative of the EU for foreign policy, Josep Borrell, said that today at the summit in Brussels, the leaders of the EU will be informed about the tensions in Kosovo.

According to the Serbian media, Borrell said that the tensions of the last few days in the north of Kosovo have worried all EU leaders and therefore Lajcak traveled to Pristina and Belgrade.

“You know that in recent days we have had a lot of tension in the north of Kosovo. I sent our special representative Miroslav Lajçak to Pristina and Belgrade. Try to defuse the situation and return to dialogue. This is the only way to ensure the European future of Kosovo and Serbia”, said Borrell before today’s meeting.

He emphasized that it is of absolute importance to stop the riots, to break the barricades, to return to calm and to discuss, as he emphasized, the proposal that we have put on the table to find a permanent and coherent solution about the tensions between Kosovo and Serbia.

Borrell also announced that leaders are expected to confirm Bosnia and Herzegovina’s candidate status.

“This should be a good opportunity for Bosnia and Herzegovina leaders to work on reforms,” Borrell said, adding that this is a very important step for Bosnia and Herzegovina and the entire region.

EU leaders will meet today in Brussels, where they will discuss the war in Ukraine, issues related to energy and the economy, security, defense and foreign relations.
