“Broken dreams”, the new mural dedicated to all women and girls killed by their husbands or partners in Kosovo

A new mural has been added to Pristina, through which it is intended to raise the awareness of girls and women about gender-based violence.
The mural entitled “Broken Dreams” is dedicated to all women and girls who have been killed by their husbands or partners.
“Such works of art are a powerful way to make visible the issue of murders of women and to challenge the norms and stereotypes that justify violence and that are deeply rooted in the patriarchal system in Kosovo,” the announcement of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports of Kosovo reads.
The mural was created by the Kosovar Center for Gender Studies, together with the well-known painter Fitore Berisha Alisdottir, who sees art as a means to react to social problems.
The project is supported by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, the Municipality of Pristina and UN Women. The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, was also present at the inauguration of the “Broken Dreams” mural.
