Ceku: Kosovo applies for UNESCO membership in the fall

The Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Hajrullah Çeku, declared that in the fall of next year Kosovo will apply to become a member of UNESCO.

According to him, membership in UNESCO will further prove Kosovo’s independence and sovereignty.

“I believe that in the next opportunity it should be applied. And that opportunity is in the fall of next year, this is because the general conference of UNESCO meets every 2 years and this is the opportunity to apply. The application to the Council of Europe in the European Union, NATO and very soon in UNESCO are natural actions to confirm the sovereignty and independence of Kosovo”, stated Ceku.

“I believe that in the same logic we should continue with UNESCO and other institutional and international organizations”, he said further.

We recall that Kosovo’s request to join the UN cultural body in 2015 did not receive enough votes from UNESCO member states, due to strong opposition from Serbia and its allies.
