Cultural and Educational Cooperation with Albania Essential for Presheva Valley in Southern Serbia

Shaip Kamberi, Member of the National Assembly of Serbia, called for Albania and its diplomatic corps to raise awareness of the difficult situation of Albanians in the Presheva Valley in southern Serbia.
Meanwhile, he welcomed Albania’s progress toward the European Union. At the same time, he expressed concern over the political position of the Albanian community in the region.
Kamberi highlighted that Albanians in the region share history, language, tradition, and culture. In addition, they aspire to a democratic society based on European Union values. He added that this foundation is essential for long-term peace in the Western Balkans.
He further noted challenges on the EU path. These include interethnic tensions, Serbia’s hegemonistic ambitions, slow reforms, and unequal treatment of citizens. Therefore, he stressed the need for vision, dialogue, and responsible leadership.
Moreover, Kamberi emphasized the role of cultural and educational cooperation with Albania. He explained that it builds communication bridges, engages younger generations, and transforms shared heritage into development and innovation. As a result, this cooperation is vital for the future of Albanians in the Presheva Valley.
Kamberi also mentioned proposals submitted in the Serbian parliament to advance minority rights. However, these proposals have not been accepted. He raised administrative obstacles, including address deactivation and non-recognition of diplomas. Consequently, many young Albanians seek residence in EU countries.
Finally, he called for coordinated action by Albania and Kosovo. In addition, he urged implementation of previous agreements, including the creation of a joint fund for the Presheva Valley.
