Deputy Prime Minister Albana Koçiu said today that payments have doubled for 10,720 children with disabilities up to the age of 18, including blind children. She said support for children with disabilities and their families remains a social policy priority. From October 1, the government will also cover social and health insurance contributions for 14,657 caregivers and personal assistants.

Koçiu said the measures aim to provide greater support to families who care for children with disabilities. She added that authorities are also expanding services closer to families. The goal, she said, is to give children more opportunities to develop and help families feel more secure. Koçiu acknowledged that more work remains despite the progress made so far.

Meanwhile, she said the measures form part of the government’s vision for a Social Albania. She described the approach as focusing on families and groups that need greater support. Koçiu said the aim is to bring policies and services closer to people and provide greater support to those who need it most.
