The Regional Directorate of Cultural Heritage in Tirana has announced a programme of educational and interactive activities for European Cultural Heritage Week.

The activities will take place in Tirana, Peshkopi and Kavajë. They aim to bring cultural heritage closer to local communities, particularly young people, through practical experiences, historical interpretation and digital technology.

At the Tirana Mosaic, students from “Qemal Stafa” School will explore the archaeological site through an interactive educational activity. First, they will take a virtual tour of the site’s history, mosaics and archaeological remains.

Next, the “Little Archaeologist” activity will introduce students to the main stages of archaeological research. They will learn how archaeologists observe, identify, document and interpret material remains.

In addition, a creative workshop will allow the children to recreate the Tirana Mosaic logo using beads. Through colours, patterns and composition, they will explore the principles behind mosaic-making.

Meanwhile, Zuna Tower in Sohodoll village will host an open-air lesson for students from the local nine-year school. By observing the tower’s architecture, traditional construction techniques, materials and spatial organisation, students will explore its historical and cultural value.

The activity will also highlight the importance of documenting, preserving, conserving and passing cultural heritage on to future generations.

At the same time, Bashtova Castle will combine monument visits with digital technology. Through a virtual tour, visitors will explore its fortification architecture, spatial organisation, traditional construction techniques and historical development.

Furthermore, the experience will highlight the castle’s connection with the surrounding territory, the Shkumbin River and the Adriatic Sea. Visitors will explore Bashtova Castle not only as a defensive structure, but also as evidence of historical developments, communication routes and the relationship between people and their environment.
