Elections should not be announced in the north without lifting the sanctions

Kosovan deputy Prime Minister, Besnik Bislimi declared that Kosova should not announce new elections for the mayors of four northern municipalities before the EU’s measures against Kosova are lifted.
During a meeting with journalists in Prishtina, when asked whether there is agreement with internationals on how to proceed with the elections in the four municipalities to avoid differences in stances, Bislimi answered that “that is an issue of Kosova”.
It is not clear yet whether President’s Vjosa Osmani idea to go through the petition has a legal basis, while the US representative for the Western Balkans, Gabriel Escobar, and the EU representative for the Kosova-Serbia dialogue, Miroslav Lajcak have asked for a faster process.
Bislimi confirmed that they (the government) will not ask the 4 mayors of the northernmost municipalities to resign, not even those who belong to the Self-determination Movement, the political force in power in the country.
Focusing on the measures imposed by the EU, Bislimi said that he received promises from the dialogue mediator, Miroslav Lajcak that with the Bratislava agreement, the conditions four of them to resign have been met.
