Electricity imports and exports in Kosovo reach record levels in January

The Kosovo Agency of Statistics (ASK) reports a strong rise in hydropower production in January 2026. At the same time, electricity consumption increased compared to January 2025.
First, hydropower output reached 29,901 GWh. This marks a sharp increase of 67.09% year-on-year. Meanwhile, total electricity available stood at 894.93 GWh, up by 1.10%. Consumption also rose. It reached 695.17 GWh, an increase of 4.63%.
In addition, alternative electricity sources accounted for 10.87% of total consumption. Imports remained significant. They reached 508.45 GWh. Exports, on the other hand, totaled 299.19 GWh, including transmission flows.
However, coal production declined. It fell by 20.55%, to around 617,956 thousand tons.
Finally, sector data show mixed trends. Industrial consumption recorded the highest growth at 22.96%. Public lighting also increased by 14.07%. In contrast, some categories declined, including 220–110 kV consumers and mining.
