“The news from Tirana today is heartbreaking. Ismail Kadare, a literary giant and beloved voice of Albania, has passed away at the age of 88. His powerful literary voice, translated into 45 languages, resonated throughout Europe and beyond, showcasing the rich and diverse Albanian culture worldwide.

His sharp and penetrating prose, yet affectionate, reflected the complexity of Albanian history and knowledge. Our deepest condolences to his loved ones and all those who admired his genius. Kadare’s legacy will endure,” writes the EU Embassy.
