Escobar and Lajçak: Kosovo an equal party in the dialogue. Nothing can be imposed on Kosovo without its consent

The European Union Representative for the Pristina-Belgrade Dialogue and Other Western Balkans Issues, Miroslav Lajcak, and the Representative for the Western Balkans and Deputy Assistant Secretary Gabriel Escobar held their joint press conference in Kosovo today, as part of their three day final visit.
Escobar assessed his visit to Kosovo together with Lajçak as successful. Among other things, the US representative said that during their stay in Kosovo, they had successful meetings with key leaders. Lajcak said that Kosovo is an equal party in the dialogue and that it should not be afraid to establish an Association of Serb-majority municipalities. He stressed that no one wants a “Serbian republic” in Kosovo.
“We do not rule out any result. We do not impose any result. It is up to Kosovo and Serbia to agree on what that final result will be. Kosovo is an equal party in the dialogue… which means that nothing can be imposed on Kosovo without its consent. I often hear the expression that we do not want a ‘second Serbian Republic’ in Kosovo and I believe we have made it clear many times that no one wants that.”
