EU Ambassador to Albania Sofia Moreira de Sousa met with Prosecutor General Olsian Çela to discuss the main challenges facing Albania’s prosecution system.

During the meeting, the two officials focused on ensuring justice for citizens and fighting crime. Moreira de Sousa highlighted the importance of a strong and effective justice system in addressing these challenges.

“Justice and the fight against crime start with a strong and functional justice system. I had a very good discussion with Prosecutor General Olsian Çela on the main challenges facing the prosecution system in ensuring justice for citizens and fighting crime,” she said.

Moreover, the EU ambassador stressed the importance of an independent prosecution service. She said it needs adequate resources and must work effectively to uphold the rule of law.

“An independent, adequately resourced and efficient prosecution service is essential for the rule of law and for Albania’s path towards the European Union,” Moreira de Sousa said.

Meanwhile, the meeting comes as Albania continues its EU integration process. The country is also advancing justice reforms aimed at strengthening the rule of law and the effectiveness of its institutions.
