EU Ambassador to Kosovo, Aivo Orav, praised today the peaceful, competitive, and inclusive conduct of the first round of local elections. In a post on social media, he highlighted the role of free and fair media coverage in ensuring a transparent electoral process.

He also expressed confidence that the same standards will continue in the second round. Kosovo held regular local elections on Sunday to elect mayors and municipal assemblies.

Meanwhile, the runoff will take place on November 9 in several municipalities where no mayoral candidate won on October 12 — including the capital, Pristina.

The EU ambassador reaffirmed the European Union’s support for democratic institutions and credible elections in Kosovo.
